Ashley and Joel here, teeming with excitement for what lies next in our dream-channeling, art-creation station. We will be landing terrestrially in the space formerly known as the Joseph Beth Booksellers in Southside Works, alongside legions of other handcrafting masterminds. Our shared table will be encrusted with enchanting photography of dancing, abstract reflections and mystical moments of our journeys to faraway lands, as well as collaged combinations of recontextualized spiritual iconography, jarring social juxtapositions, and adorable animals. Please stop by for some lovely conversation and instant transportation to otherworldly planes of seeing...

Introducing... The Surreal Banana Peel!
The Surreal Banana Peel is the current outpouring of surrealist nomads Ashley Andrews and Joel Brown.
Simmering with spontaneity and rooted in intuition, these visual artists, musicians, and performers inhabit secret spaces while traveling across thousands of miles in a surrealistic attempt to create a cumulative home base which transcends physical location.
They have resided in a variety of secret attics, nooks, crannies, vacant buildings, tents in rainforests and magical gardens in this process.
Spots they have settled in for a time include Maui, Oahu, Sedona, Savannah, San Francisco, Portland, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Germany, and Japan. The Surreal Banana Peel now explores Pittsburgh for the duration of one year.
Ashley “Pixelle” Andrews is a picture-taking dream genius, noteworthy in her ability to create abstract, multilayered photos without technological manipulation.
Joel “Vortex” Brown is a mixed media magician, also abhorring the use of computers with his handcrafted collages that are virtual caricatures of the unbridled dream state.
Their philosophy is not surrealism as art, but life as surrealism.
